Bowen Medical Equipment Expands

Business moves into new location

By Jamie Willey, Parsons Sun

A Parsons medical supply store recently expanded into a new building.

After being limited to two small display spaces for a little more than a year, Bowen Medical Equipment and Mobility opened in mid-August in its new location, 1519A Main.

Bowen Medical Equipment manager David Olson said the new store has 13,000 square feet of space. Brian West, owner of Bowen Pharmacy, bought the building after Steve’s Lock Out/Smelly Good Stuff moved out of the location. Bowen leases part of the building to a new Parsons chiropractor, Dr. Brad Herman.

Olson said Bowen Medical Equipment opened a little more than a year ago and was operated out of the two Bowen Pharmacy locations at 1519 Main and at Labette Health. The business had just two small display areas at the pharmacies and used a warehouse to store most of the equipment. Bowen Medical Equipment quickly outgrew that setup, and the new location offers much more space.

“We offer a large showroom that’s handicap-accessible with plenty of room to walk around and try out the equipment,” Olson said.

The store sells oxygen, diabetic shoes, lift chairs, power chairs and scooters, CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) equipment and a wide variety of daily living items for people with disabilities. The store also employs two women who are licensed to fit maternity and vasectomy bras and includes a fitting room. Olson said women previously had to travel to Wichita or Joplin for that service. Olson also is licensed for diabetic shoe fitting.

The new shop means that Bowen Medical Equipment was able to employ three new employees. The business now has eight workers.

Bowen Medical Equipment offers free delivery, and the shop is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
